Vivian Laird

Fear of going to hell played a big part in my coming to Christ. I had done many evil things in my life. I first gave my life to the Lord Jesus at age fourteen. This was at a boy's camp under the ministry of Major Ian Thomas, the founder of "Torch Bearers." A few years after my conversion, I fell into a period of backsliding. Then when I was about 17, the Lord awakened me to my sinful way of life, resulting in my repentance. I then yielded my whole life to the Lord Jesus and he has led me ever since.

First the Lord directed me to go to Bible College and later unto college where I met my wife, Merilyn. We have been married for more than 53 years. The next step after marriage, the Lord sent us to Africa as missionaries where we lived a very eventful life. We resided in Africa for more than 30 years. In 1991 we returned to America where I became the Missions Pastor at Calvary Chapel St. Petersburg. At present I serve as Pastor to Senior Citizens. I esteem it a great privilege and honor to be on the staff of such a great church.

Merilyn and I were married in 1953 and have five children, four girls and a boy. They are all married and we now have 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. I am an adventurer at heart who loves to travel, as long as I have a purpose in view.

This is one of my most favorite verse in the Bible: Hebrews 5:14: "Spiritual food is for the mature who by constant practice train themselves to discern good and evil."
